Awair VS Foobot: Which One’s Better?

This is a close one. When it comes to Awair VS Foobot, it’s hard to tell which one you want to get.

These two air quality monitors are very similar. They both measure almost the same exact readings. And they both have a user-friendly app.

The differences, however, are in the details.

So in this Awair VS Foobot post, we’re going to get down to the nitty-gritty to determine which one you might prefer.

Without further ado, let’s begin…

Awair VS Foobot: Sensors And Readings

Both products are great in detecting what’s in the air. But they’re slightly different here…

Awair

The Awair individually measures 5 things — temperature, humidity, CO2, VOCs, and dust.

awair

Like any air quality monitor, it does this with its built-in sensors. But as you’re about to see, unlike the Foobot, the Awair contains a specific sensor for each factor. One for temperature, for dust, one for humidity, and so on.

Here are the maximum levels measured for each:

  • Temperature: -40 to +125°C (-40 to +257°F),+/- 0.3°C
  • Humidity: 0 to 95%, +/- 3%
  • CO2: 0 to 4000 ppm,+/- 75ppm
  • Dust: 0 to 500 μg/m3
  • VOCs: 0 to 2014 ppb

Foobot

Similarly, the Foobot also measures temperature, humidity, and VOCs. The difference here though is in measuring CO2 and dust.

foobot

The Foobot, unlike the Awair, doesn’t have a specific sensor for CO2. But instead, it calculates a CO2 reading through the VOC level by a complex algorithm. It also doesn’t solely measure dust, but PM 2.5 (particulate matter of 2.5 micrometers such as dust).

Here are the level measurements:

  • Temperature: -40 to +125°C (-40 to +257°F),+/- 0.4°C
  • Humidity: 0 to 100%, +/- 4%
  • CO2: Minimum detected is 450 ppm
  • PM 2.5: Minimum detected is 0 µg/m3
  • VOCs: Minimum detected is 125 ppb

Awair VS Foobot: Set Up

Both the Awair and Foobot are incredibly easy to set up. In fact, they’re practically the same.

With either one, simply plug in the adapter to power it on, download the compatible app onto your smartphone, and sync it to your device.

Then everything from there will take care of itself.

Awair VS Foobot: Smartphone App

Here’s where things get interesting. Awair’s app (Apple/Android) and Foobot’s app (Apple/Android) are FREE. And on there is where you can truly get the most out of both air quality monitors. But I’d say the Foobot is better here.

Awair

The Awair app, as you’ll see, is very similar to Foobot’s. When you access it after setting it up, you’ll quickly see your general air quality score on the home screen.

Of course, the higher your score the better.

Beneath the overall score, it also shows you the level of each measurement. Ideally, you want everything to be in the green for optimal air quality.. The more orange/red the score, the worse it is. But don’t worry…

If you tap on the Tips tab, you’ll be shown several recommendations to help “clean” out your air. This is present for each reading. So if one is unexpectedly high, just look here to find out how to fix it.

Lastly, if you tap on Trends, you’ll find an entire line graph for each measurement. Here, you can see how your air quality has improved (or worsened) overtime. This allows you to see how your daily life is affected by the air in your home.

Foobot

Now that you’ve seen what the Awair app is like, you’ll see many similarities in Foobot’s. As well as some differences. When you download their app and open it up, you’ll be greeted with the home screen below.

Like the Awair, it shows your overall air score and readings of each individual measurement. Only this time, the lower your score, the better. And vice versa. The higher, the worse.

From this screen, you can then tap any measurement to to learn more.

Like Awair, Foobot’s app also provides tips on what you can do to get a measurement back to recommended levels. This is not only for VOCs, but for all factors.

And do you see that little arrow at the bottom of the screen? If you tap it, you’ll be lead to the screen below.

Foobot’s Charts Section is like Awair’s Trends Section. Here, you’ll find a bar graph displaying readings over time. Only this time, there’s a vertical line drawn down the middle. This line represents WHO’s recommended threshold. You want to stay behind it. If too far ahead, the air can be dangerous for your health.

Lastly, if you tap one of the bars above, you’ll be able to tag it…

With this feature, you’ll better know why something all of a sudden skyrockets because you can tag what happened during that time. For example, if you vacuumed the house at that 2-3pm, and see PM 2.5 rose at that time, you can tag it for future reference.

Awair VS Foobot: Hardware

The Awair and Foobot look very different physically. But on its surface, they both tell you similar readings. Except, the Awair shows much more.

Awair

The Awair has multiple display modes.

It can show you your overall air quality score along with the dotted markers for each individual measurement, like the above. Or it can show the time, or the temperature and humidity levels. This is all changed on the app.

Foobot

The Foobot also shows your overall air quality score, but not each measurement. It does this with its LED light. Here’s a picture of what I mean.

Left being the best, and right being the worst.

Another cool thing it can do is send instant readings. All you have to do is double tap the top of your Foobot, and it’ll send a notification to your phone of all measurements.

Awair VS Foobot: Summary

Choosing between the Awair and Foobot is a tough decision. Both do nearly the exact same thing, but with slight differences.

In regards to readings, I think the Awair is better though. With a specific sensor designed for each factor, you can be rest assured it’s highly accurate. Whereas the Foobot doesn’t contain a sensor to measure CO2 directly.

I must admit, the app for the Foobot comes on top however. With its tag feature and measurement threshold, you know exactly where you want the quality of your air to stand, and is overall, more organized.

Going for the exact same price ($199 for both), it’s only a matter of performance at this point.

But the reviews don’t lie.

Awair is currently the bestseller on Amazon with many more customer reviews compared to the Foobot.
